EDD 2022, digitalization at the heart of economic and social development

On the occasion of the 15th edition of the European Development Days, Jérémie Pellet, Director General of Expertise France, Jean Van Wetter, Director General of Enabel, and Thierry Barbé, Head of the Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Unit of the European Commission, visited the AU-EU D4D Hub stand along with representatives of the Practitioner’s network.

To foster digital cooperation between the European development agencies and their global partners, the European Commission and the European Heads of State launched, with their partners, the D4D Hub. This platform brings together the main stakeholders of the European Union: EU Member States, private compagnies, civil society organizations and financial institutions around a common approach to digital transformation.

Jérémie Pellet highlighted the essential role of the D4D hub for digital development: “The D4D Hub is an indispensable part of the work we are doing to connect Africa with Europe on digital topics. These topics are crucial for the Sustainable Development Goals as digital is truly transversal. Our goal is to develop connectivity, environments, ecosystems, but also a reference of values of gender equality, inclusiveness, citizen participation in digital.  All this will ensure that we use digital tools to develop both the economy and the social on the African continent.”
